And now?!

Developments in the Middle East are putting pressure on the lives of various groups in the Netherlands. We want to offer our visitors space to reflect on their own experiences and those of others. How do different people experience these geopolitical events, and what impact do they have here, on our society? We hope visitors find recognition, can share their experiences, and feel more connected to others even when their perspectives differ greatly.

In the coming years, the Jewish Cultural Quarter will develop programmes in which, together with the public, social and cultural partners, thinkers, and artists, we will explore contemporary issues relating to Jewish identity.

These programmes explore different perspectives and are developed through exhibitions, public events, podcasts, publications and online content.

Imagining Futures

And now?! has launched with the interactive installation Imagining Futures. The power of futures thinking in uncertain times in the Jewish Museum. This installation explores how people, in times of crisis, can and dare to imagine different futures - and what that can mean for them. Several people living in the Netherlands with family in Israel, Gaza, or the West Bank took part in a workshop on 'futures thinking'. The first part of the installation presents the outcome of this workshop; in the second part, visitors are invited to participate themselves.

Events

In a series of events the impact of the ongoing war and violence in the Middle East on Dutch society will be explored through conversations, interviews, music, and performances. The events take place at various locations across Amsterdam. Tickets for all events will be available online in September.

There are also special events for children. You can help us build the Cheer-Up Square in the atelier of the Jewish Museum junior during the school holidays.

Below, you can purchase tickets for the available events.

Podcast: Seven Days in November

The Jewish Cultural Quarter, in collaboration with audio agency Airborne, is launching the podcast series Seven Days in November. Podcast maker Max Boogaard uses this podcast series to explore the events surrounding the Ajax–Maccabi Tel Aviv match in November 2024 and the intense public debate that followed. Max’s own curiosity and confusion serve as the starting point for his search for answers. Through conversations with experts, eyewitnesses, and individuals from various communities, the series offers an in-depth analysis of both the immediate events and their broader societal impact.

Seven Days in November will be available soon.

Language: the impact of words

At the Jewish Cultural Quarter, we carefully consider the impact of our words. We also recognize that our choices may be perceived differently by different people. We strive to continue developing ourselves, also in this area.
