Walking tour National Holocaust Names Memorial

Walking tour

Remembering the persecution of the Jews

More than 102.000 names are engraved on the National Holocaust Names Memorial. These are the names of Jews, Roma and Sinti who were persecuted and deported from the Netherlands. Who were these people? What were their lives like before the war? And what happened to them?

During this walk, you will also visit other locations in the old Jewish quarter that tell stories about the persecution of the Jews. For example, you will pass the Auschwitz Monument or the Stolpersteine. Along the way, you will learn about Jewish life before the war, about the Holocaust, and together we reflect on the meaning of remembrance.

What will you learn?

This programme ties in with citizenship education and history, and is tailored to the level of the students.

  • You will learn about the Nazi persecution of the Jews in the Netherlands.
  • You will discover the history of both well-known and lesser-known memorials in the old Jewish quarter.
  • You will reflect on the meaning of remembering.

"Wat mij het meest is bijgebleven van de excursie is het Namenmonument. Al die duizenden namen bij elkaar maakten echt indruk en lieten zien hoeveel levens er verloren gingen. Het voelde heel confronterend en tegelijkertijd ook heel waardevol om erbij stil te staan."
