The Nazi persecution of the Jews in the Netherlands
Discover the history of the Holocaust, or Shoah, at the National Holocaust Museum. What happened in the Netherlands during the persecution of the Jews, and how is the museum building itself part of this history?
Together with your classmates, you will explore the exhibition in the National Holocaust Museum. You will explore a theme such as anti-Jewish measures or going into hiding, and discover the stories behind the museum objects through the interactive tour.

What will you learn?
This programme ties in with citizenship education, history and world orientation, and is tailored to the level of the students.

Your class will visit the National Holocaust Museum using an interactive tour. A museum educator will guide a group reflection before and after the visit.

To help you get started, we have listed the most common questions below.
The programme is available in Dutch or English.
No, that’s not necessary. During the programme, students are introduced to the history of the persecution of the Jews.
Tip: watch the video What is Jewish? (7.5 minutes) with your class beforehand. In this short video, Jewish teenagers talk about what it means to be Jewish.
The tour is fully self-guided. A museum educator leads the introduction and follow-up discussion, and is available throughout the tour for questions and support.
For the English-language tour, only printed booklets are available. For the Dutch-language tour, you can choose between printed booklets or tablets.
Only one class can take part in this programme at a time. However, we can combine it with other programmes at the Jewish Cultural Quarter so multiple classes can visit at once. Please mention this in your booking request, and we will help create a suitable schedule.

From the 2024/2025 school year through the end of 2026/2027, third-year classes from Amsterdam can join an educational programme at the National Holocaust Museum free of charge. The cost is covered by the Municipality of Amsterdam. Please indicate in your booking if you would like to make use of this offer.
