In the heart of Amsterdam, in what was once the Jewish neighborhood, is the Jewish Cultural Quarter (JCQ).
In the JCQ stands the renowned Jewish Historical Museum with its award-winning JHM Children’s Museum. Another major attraction in the JCQ is the Portuguese Synagogue. With its authentic interior, its treasury and its centuries-old Ets Haim Library, this synagogue is one of the city’s jewels. The Hollandsche Schouwburg and the new National Holocaust Museum (still under development) bear witness to the darkest period in the history of Amsterdam.
The different sites within the Jewish Cultural Quarter forge links between past and present, between Judaism and other cultures, and among individual people from all backgrounds, through exhibitions of art, history (and cultural history), and photography, a range of other events, research, and educational activities that inspire visitors to think and act.
The Jewish Cultural Quarter has grown enormously over the years and received prestigious awards. Today it is one of the country’s most popular visitor destinations. To maintain this success we need your support. Your contribution will enable us to continue our work. We are grateful to all those whose commitment to the Jewish Cultural Quarter supports our ongoing efforts to keep this history visible and to show its relevance to today’s world.
All gifts, however small, help us to continue our work. One-off donations can be made by bank transfer to the account NL89 RABO 0195 2085 28.
