Suitcases with a story
Artist Willem Volkersz created a suitcase artwork in memory of the mostly Jewish pupils from his primary school who were murdered during the Second World War. These suitcases are now displayed at the Hollandsche Schouwburg.
What happened at this location? Who were these pupils, for whom each suitcase was made? And how will you and your class give shape to a new artwork using these suitcases?

For: ages 11 - 12 (year 8 of Dutch primary school)
Duration: 1.5 hours
Group size: maximum of 30 pupils and 2 supervisors
Cost: € 200 including admission

What will you learn?
This programme ties in with citizenship education and history, and is tailored to the level of the pupils.
- You will learn about the fraught history of the Hollandsche Schouwburg.
- You will explore personal stories. Who were the pupils for whom each suitcase was made?
- You will reflect on the meaning of remembrance.

No. A visit to the Jewish Museum or the Portuguese Synagogue is not included, but it is a valuable addition to this programme.
If you would like to add a museum visit, please mention this in your booking. We will create a suitable schedule for your group. Please note that the cost of a museum visit is not included in the price of this programme.
