We believe it is important for everyone to have access to our collection. That’s why we are happy to lend paintings and objects from our collection to other museums and institutions.
Terms and conditions
You can request a loan for a temporary exhibition or a permanent display. It’s important that you meet our terms and conditions, so please read them carefully.

A request for a loan must be made at least six months prior to the commencement of the intended loan period.
The loan period starts two weeks before the opening date of an exhibition.
Only written requests will be considered.
We are not able to approve all requests for loans. Therefore it is advisable to examine our collection in advance of making an official request.
Submit a request
A request for a loan consists of the following:
- Name, address and authorised signatory of the institution making the request.
- Name and contact details of the contact person.
- Title and dates of the exhibition.
- Reasons for the request.
- List of requested items including inventory numbers.
- A facility report covering the institution making the request, preferably along the lines of an AAM (American Association of Museums) facility report. The facility report will be treated confidentially.
- Climate details concerning the space in which the object will be exhibited, covering the same period as the loan period.
We will provide you with a decision on your request within two months.
We do not charge a loan fee. However, you should be aware of costs for:
- Transportation by a certified transporter.
- Insurance of the objects during transportation and loan period.
- Packaging materials.
- Where relevant: costs of conservation and restoration treatments. The cost for these treatments will be made known in advance.
- Where relevant: costs for transport, hotel with breakfast and per diem for the courier.
Traveling exhibitions are subject to different arrangements.

Life? Or Theatre?
The exhibition Charlotte Salomon: Life? Or Theater? tells the life story of Charlotte Salomon through 200 gouaches from her eponymous life work.
