Guida Joseph: Three Generations – Three Voices

Archive
till October 12

In her award-winning graphic memoir De Rode Draad (The Red Thread, 2020) and her recent graphic novel Enkele reis Sobibor (One Way Ticket to Sobibor, 2025), Guida Joseph reflects upon and processes her Jewish father’s and grandmother’s wartime experiences and how they continue to affect her own life.

Her work is full of humour and light-heartedness, without glossing over the horrors of the Shoah. The colourful works contrast with the heavy subject matter: unprocessed traumas that survivors and their children pass on from generation to generation.

Guida lives and works between Amsterdam and Italy. She studied graphic design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and art therapy in Rome. As an illustrator, she has worked on numerous children’s books, magazines and educational publications.

The exhibition Guida Joseph: Three Generations – Three Voices is on view from from 6 June until 12 October in the the Art gallery of the Jewish Museum.
