House rules Jewish Cultural Quarter
To ensure that everyone’s visit to the Jewish Cultural Quarter is as pleasant as possible we request that you observe our house rules. Note that our security staff are instructed to ask visitors who disregard these rules to leave.
Do not touch
Please do not touch any of the exhibits in our buildings.
Mobile phonese
Please do not phone in our exhibition spaces. That applies to our knowledge resource centres too. You may phone in the entrance foyers, museum cafés and museum shops, but kindly avoid disturbing other visitors.
Film and photography
You may take photos and film for your own use; only use flash or a tripod where this is permitted by a member of staff.
Please ask permission before taking photos or filming for a professional production, however small. Check here for more information.
Camera Surveillance
CCT cameras operate in and around all the Jewish Cultural Quarter buildings
Dress appropriately
No clothing restrictions apply in our buildings. However, we kindly request that you dress modestly in our various locations, especially at the Portuguese Synagogue and National Holocaust Museum.
Speak quietly
Feel free to talk in our museum galleries, but be mindful of other visitors. Please take special care in the National Holocaust Museum. Do not shout in any of our buildings.
Food an drinks
Food and drinks are restricted to the museum cafés. Do not bring your own food and drink onto the premises.
Coats and bags
At all our locations, except Hollandsche Schouwburg, please leave your coats and bags at the cloakroom or in a locker. Note that this at your own risk, the Jewish Cultural Quarter cannot be held responsible for any loss, theft or damage you may experience. Bags smaller than A5 (14.8 x 21cm) may be carried in the building.
Large bags
Please do not bring large backpacks, bags, suitcases, trolleys and or folding bicycles to the premises. We cannot store these for you. Leave your bags at your hotel or at one of the city’s left luggage facilities such as Drop & Go Luggage Storage, 100 metres from Amsterdam’s
Central Station.
Security check
Our security staff are authorised to check your bags. If they discover that you possess an item in breach of our regulations they may refuse you entry.
Mobility aids
You may use mobility aids such as prams, buggies, wheelchairs and walkers in our buildings. Wheelchairs are available for your visit. We advise you to reserve one in advance via dagcoordinatie@jck.nl
Pets
You may bring your assistance dog into the museum; however, pets are not permitted.
No smoking
You may not smoke anywhere in any of our buildings.
No running
Please do not run in any of our buildings.
General terms and conditions for visitors
Our general terms and conditions apply during your visit.
We want everyone to enjoy their visit to the museum. If our house rules are not followed, a security officer may ask you to leave the museum.
