Let's Say Goodbye to the Night: escape from the shaddows of war

In the eighties Jules Schelvis, an Amsterdam born Jewish man, interviewed twelve men and women who participated in the Sobibor uprising. Most of them have not told their story until Schelvis, a Sobibor surviror himself, captured it with his amateur camera.

But the story did not end at the uprising. How will you continue your life when your entire family was murdered? The insurgents spread out over the world, away from Europe, to the United States, Ukraine, and Israël. In this documentary we will travel behind the survivors and meet their children and grandchildren. They show us how different individuals cope with this dark past.

During this event we will first watch the documentary. Afterwich we will have a conversation with Piet de Blaauw and Jan Pieter Tuinstra, makers of the documentary, and with a number of the main characters in the documentary, under wich Rena Blatt and Jetje Manheim.
