Candlelight Concert: Gabriel Palatchi

Concert
September 10

Hundreds of burning candles and the wonderful acoustics in the Portuguese Synagogue set the stage for unique evening concerts.
Argentinian pianist Gabriel Palatchi plays a unique blend of Latin jazz, tango, funk and world music.

With ample room for improvisation, all of Palatchi’s concerts are unique. His own compositions and repertoire of classics are unmistakably rooted in his continent – Astor Piazzolla is never far away. At the same time, as a Jewish musician, his heart also lies with the music of the Middle East and klezmer – these influences can also be heard in Palatchi’s virtuoso mix.

Gabriel Palatchi grew up in Buenos Aires and attended the conservatory there, the Escuela de Música Contemporánea, which is affiliated with the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. He then went to Cuba to study with Chucho Valdés, a giant in Latin jazz.
