Hannukah Candlelight Concert Sacha van Ravenswade

Concert
December 18

Several times a year, the hundreds of candles and the beautiful acoustics create unique concert evenings at the Portuguese Synagogue. Just like last year, a few days before Chanukah, Sacha van Ravenswade will once again sing beautiful songs, both from the synagogue and operas.

Tenor Sacha van Ravenswade specializes in Jewish liturgical music, or chazzanut. From a young age, he sang it in the synagogue, and officially as a cantor from the age of fifteen. Later, he became passionate about classical music, and opera in particular – that's why tonight's program is a combination of both. Van Ravenswade will be accompanied on piano by Jeroen Sarphati. He, too, has a soft spot for opera: he has even translated and retranslated several operas, and is also a choir conductor and music programmer.
