Candlelight Concert: Amsterdam Klezmer Band

Concert
March 19

Hundreds of burning candles and the wonderful acoustics in the Portuguese Synagogue set the stage for unique evening concerts. The ensemble around Swiss violinist Marc Crofts plays klezmer supplemented with folk music as diverse as the origins of the musicians. Over the past thirty years, the Amsterdam Klezmer Band has studied, inverted, combed through, and reinvented klezmer music.

On March 19th, the Amsterdam Klezmer Band proudly presents its new album, Diaspora, at the Portuguese Synagogue. The album, which will be released worldwide on March 20th, was recorded in a single day in November 2025, shortly after a theater tour of the same name in the Netherlands. Diaspora's repertoire consists of traditional klezmer, as it sounded 100 years ago in the shtetls of Eastern Europe. The band complements this with its own unique approach, presenting powerful new klezmer music in Amsterdam in 2026.
