Nestled in the heart of the Jewish Cultural Quarter is Ets Haim Livraria Montezinos. Ets Haim, on the premises of the Portuguese Synagogue, has been internationally renowned since the Dutch Seventeenth Century. Founded in 1616, it is the oldest active Jewish library in the world. In 2003, the collection was included as world heritage of great cultural and social importance in the UNESCO ‘Memory of the World Register’.
This year, the United Nations and UNESCO are marking their 75th anniversary. To highlight the mission of the UN/UNESCO to build peace through international cooperation, the library Ets Haim, together with many other Dutch UNESCO heritage institutions. will be lighted with UN-blue light from October 19th to October 24th.
