Every month, the hundreds of burning candles and the beatiful acoustics make for unique concert evenings in the Portugese Synagogue. On September 7, Santo Servicio will give a festive performance: the male choir of the synagoge is celebrating its 20th anniversary! Santo Servicio is the male choir of the Portuguese Jewish community.
They sing synagogue songs on holidys and during special occasions such as memorials and weddings. The choir was founded in 1886 and consisted of more than a hundred men and sopranos at the time. Most of them did not survive World War II. Twenty years ago, in 2003, the choir was revived using preserved scores. This twentieth anniversary will be celebrated with this special concert.
