Hundreds of burning candles and the wonderful acoustics in the Portuguese Synagogue set the stage each month for unique evening concerts. On 23 March, the New Phoenix Ensemble will play. The group is a collective of international musicians based in Rotterdam.
The group was founded by Clarinetist Letizia Maulá and Cellist Sylvia Cempini, who met at the Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam. Named after the bird that rose from its ashes, the duo has developed a broad repertoire, from Baroque to modern, in collaboration with musician friends, with an emphasis on often forgotten composers. Under the light of hundreds of candles will the artists perform their pieces.
