Hundreds of burning candles and the wonderful acoustics in the Portuguese Synagogue set the stage each month for unique evening concerts. Ernst Reijseger and Harmen Fraanje uncover new dimensions to the classical ensemble of cello and piano.
Ernst Reijseger and Harmen Fraanje are invited on behalf of Dutch artist Eli Content, to whom the Jewish Historical Museum is dedicating a large exhibition. The cellist and pianist are kindred spirits of Content's, constantly looking for new and surprising ways of working within their medium.
Reijseger and Fraanje are lifting the classical ensemble of cello and piano from its historical weight. They're creating new musical worlds, containing elements of classical music, jazz and non-Western music. True communication is the core of their collaboration.
Take note: there is no heating in the Portuguese Synagogue, so dress warmly.
