Artist Talk with American photographer Henry Horenstein

Language: English
Location: Jewish Museum
Time: 5.30pm - 7.00pm
What connects a photographer from the 1970s with the Photo League? Henry Horenstein will answer this question during this Artist Talk. The American photographer joins gallerist Addie Elliott for a conversation about his work and the influence of the Photo League on his photographic practice.
Henry Horenstein (b. 1947) is a Jewish-American photographer and professor at the Rhode Island School of Design. Trained as a historian and shaped by the documentary tradition, he captures the lifes of marginalized groups, the working class, and other underrepresented communities. Themes such as heritage and storytelling run like a common thread through his body of work, including the early series Close Relations, an intimate look at the life of a Jewish middle-class family and their social circle in the 1970s.
Addie Elliott is a gallery owner and curator. She previously worked as a curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and is the founder of the Elliott Gallery, the first commercial photography gallery of its kind in Amsterdam. Today, the gallery is regarded as a leading authority in European fine art and documentary photography.
